Alcohol Shampoo, then dab with methylated spirits.
Aniline Blot with absorbent tissue, dab with a 30:70 solution of methylated spirit and water, then shampoo. Pure lemon jiuce may prove useful.
Animal Fats Dab with trichloroethylene, then shampoo. If stain persists, dab with dilute ammonia (5%).
Beauty Products Same as Animal fats.
Beer Dab with lukewarm water (max 50 deg' C) to which 3% methylated spirit or 5% shampoo had been added, then blot treated are. Finally, treat with a 7% solution of vinegar.
Biro Treat with trichloroethylene or methylated spirit.
Blood Dab with cold water, then shampoo. If necessary, treat with dilute ammonia (5%).
Butter Same as animal fats.
Candle Wax Cover stain with blotting paper and apply a warmish iron. Dab with trichloroethylene and shampoo.
Carbon Same as Aniline.
Chewing Gum Apply chewing gum remover or dab with trichloroethylene, or freeze with ice cubes, shatter with blunt object, treat with methylated spirit.
Chocolate Dab with luke warm water (max 50 deg' C) or with dilute ammonia (5%). Alternative means: alcohole; trichloroethylene.
Cocoa Shampoo, then dab with dilute ammonia (5%) or with methylated spirit. If stain persists, treat with trichloroethylene.
Coffee Shampoo. If stain persists, dab with methylated spirit or with dilute ammonia (10%).
Coke Dab with lukewarm water (max 50 deg' C). if stain persists, treat with trichloroethylene. Alternative means: dilute ammonia (5%), carpet shampoo.
Eggs Dab with dilute ammonia (5%) or with methylated spirit, then shampoo.
Excrement Dab with a 50:50 solution of vinegar and water or with methylated spirit, then shampoo. Alternative treatment: warm water, dilute ammonia (5%).
Felt Tip Pen Treat with warm water with mild detergent or methylated spirit or trichloroethylene.
Food Dab with lukewarm water (max 50 deg' C), then shampoo.
Fruit Treat as food.
Fruit Juice Treat as coke.
Glue Treat with trichloroethylene, then rinse with lukewarm water and/or shampoo.
Grass Moisten with methylated spirit or warm water with mild detergent or carpet shampoo.
Grease Dab with trichloroethylene, then shampoo. Repeat with methylated spirit, then shampoo.
Ice Cream Treat with warm water to which a mild detergent or 5% ammonia has been added.
Ink Treat as Aniline.
Iodine Dab with pure ammonia.
Jam Treat as Coke.
Ketchup Treat with dilute ammonia (10%), then with trichloroethylene, shampoo if necessary.
Latex Paint Dab fresh stains with cold water. Old stains will present difficulties.
lemonade Treat as Coke.
Lipstick Treat with trichloroethylene, then shampoo.
Liqueur Treat as Alcohol
Mayonnaise Treat as Ketchup.
Mercurochrome Dab with a 75:25 solution of water and methylated spirit.
Mildew Dab with a solution of water and ammonia.
Milk Treat as Cocoa.
Mud Let dry. Remove with vacuum cleaner.

Oil Treat as Animal Fats.
Oil Paint Dab with trichloroethylene, then shampoo.

Rust Treat with oxalic acid (3%), or with rust remover.

Scorch Mark On wool carpets: pulverize ashes and vacuum.
Shoe Polish Treat as Animal Fats.
Soot Treat as Grease.
Sugar Treat stain repeatedly with a cloth drenched in clean lukewarm water.

Tar Treat as Grease.

Tooth Paste Treat with warm water and mild detergent or carpet shampoo, or dilute ammonia (5%).
Urine Treat as Excrement.
Varnish Treat with trichloroethylene or turpentine or methylated spirit or ammonia solution.
Vegetable Fats Treat as Animal Fats.
Vegetables Treat as Grass.
Vomit Treat as Excrement.
Whipped Cream Treat as Ice Cream.
White Wine Treat with a solution of cold water, a little mild detergent and a little vinegar, then shampoo.
Yoghurt Treat as Cocoa.
